The Moon Fairy Tale

The story is one of the many popular Chinese mythological stories about the moon. Once upon a time, humans suffered from the ordeals of having both 10 Suns grilling them during the day and being predated by wild beasts at night. The ruler of the universe, Jade Emperor ordered the Deity of Arrow, HowAi to get rid of the wild beasts but not the Suns who were his descendents. HowAi took his wife SheungOrr with him on the mission. However, judging from the severity of the situation, HowAi disobeyed the order and decided to get rid 9 of the 10 Suns to alleviate people’s suffering. HowAi and his wife became very popular among the ordinary citizens that made Jade Emperor jealous and angry. The Royals decided to take revenge by setting him up with a plot to punish him. HowAi was given one pill of longevity as a reward.  If he took it, he would be separated from his beloved wife forever. Otherwise, he would be guilty for disrespecting the Royals. SheungOrr realised the plot and decided to sacrifice herself by taking the pill. She eventually becomes the Moon Fairytale who lives lonely on the moon without HowAi.
